Plakias

Plakias beach is located almost 40 kilometers south of Rethymno, in the settlement of the same name in the prefecture of Rethymno. This beach is well organized and one of the most famous beaches of the island. The main beach of Plakias is located at the mouth of Kotsyfos east of the village and stretches for almost 1.5 km. Its blue-green waters are shallow, so it is an ideal choice for families with small children. West of Plakias, from the village to the fishing shelter of Plakias, there is the second beach of Plakias, Skinos. Skinos has sand and many rocks, ideal for exploring with a mask. On the beach there are umbrellas, sunbeds, water sports and diving centers for lovers of the seabed.

It is a favorite choice of the locals due to its crystal clear waters, but is not as well known by the tourists. From the port of Plakias, located at the western end of the beach, one can take a boat for a day cruise to the enchanting beach of Preveli with its palm forest. Access to the beach by road is easy. Starting from Rethymnon, you should follow the exit of the national road in the direction of Spili. With a new direction towards Plakias you will pass the gorge of Kourtaliotis and the villages of Asoma and Lefkogeia before finally reaching the village and the beach. Along the coast there is a comfortable place to park your car. Alternatively, you can arrive from Rethymno with the regular bus routes of KTEL Rethymno.
