Its name comes from the Latin word suda which means narrow passage and apparently refers to the valley of the Phoenix. The place is characterized by rich vegetation, in which the endemic Cretan palm (which thrives in very few parts of Crete) also thrives. At the edge of the beach there are rocks and it is a place suitable for snorkelling.
